Why it is in the news

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to flag off, on 5 October 2026 at the Bogibeel Terminal near Dibrugarh (Assam), the first international cargo voyage from Dibrugarh — methanol made by Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APCL), bound for Pangaon Port, Dhaka (Bangladesh), via National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) and the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol (IBP) Route. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) called it the first time since Independence that a cargo consignment sails from Dibrugarh to a foreign port.

The exam angle
