Why it is in the news
On 6 October 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the setting up of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) — a special purpose vehicle that will be the apex body for integrated planning, research, project appraisal, monitoring and impact assessment across roads, railways, ports and shipping, civil aviation, inland waterways, coastal shipping, urban mobility and logistics. Announcing the decision, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the authority will be set up in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry with representation from all major transport sectors.
