The 2 on the map

  1. 1. Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple

    Mulugu

Known forTelangana’s only World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2021.

The state’s only World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2021, and the best surviving statement of what a Kakatiya foundation was: a temple of dark basalt on a sandstone base, beside a tank dug at the same time, endowed together so that the water paid for the worship. It is named after its sculptor rather than its patron, which is almost unheard of in Indian temple architecture.

SettingEastern plateau · Kakatiya tank cascade · Palampet catchment

For the examInscribed in 2021 as "Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple" — the name on the list is Rudreshwara, not Ramappa. Built in the reign of Ganapati Deva; the floating bricks and the sandbox foundation are the two technical facts usually asked about.

  2. 2. Qutb Shahi Monuments of Hyderabad

    Hyderabad

Known forGolconda, the Qutb Shahi tombs and the Charminar, proposed together.

A serial nomination on India’s tentative list rather than an inscription: the Golconda fort, the Qutb Shahi tomb complex below it and the Charminar four kilometres east, proposed together because they are one city’s three acts — the citadel it was ruled from, the necropolis of the dynasty that ruled it, and the planned town they moved to when the fort ran out of water.

SettingGranite outcrop · Musi valley · Qutb Shahi urban landscape

For the examOn the TENTATIVE list, not inscribed. Telangana has exactly one inscribed World Heritage Site and it is Ramappa; a question that credits Golconda with inscription is testing this distinction.
