Telangana's Services and Employment
  1. 11.1–11.2 Meaning and structure

    • Services produce useful activities, such as selling, carrying, lending, teaching and governing, rather than physical goods.
    • Telangana's State income accounts group services into six official groups, from trade and hotels to other services.
  2. 11.3 Growth and contribution

    • Services formed about 67% of Telangana's gross state value added (GSVA) in 2024-25, up from about 61% in 2014-15 (current prices).
    • Services supplied about two-thirds of the rise in real GSVA between 2014-15 and 2024-25.
  3. 11.4–11.6 Major service activities

    • Trade, transport and logistics move goods to buyers and keep markets connected.
    • Real estate and professional services form the largest service group by value added in Telangana; finance is a smaller, separate group.
    • Tourism links hotels, restaurants, transport and local trade.
  4. 11.7 Hyderabad

    • High-value services cluster in Hyderabad and its surrounding districts, which produce a large share of the State's output.
    • State averages therefore hide wide regional differences in income and jobs.
  5. 11.8–11.10 Employment and the road ahead

    • Services produced about 64% of GSVA but employed about 33% of workers in 2022-23.
    • Many service jobs are informal, self-employed or without a written contract.
    • Broad-based jobs need skills, mass-employment services and regional spread, not growth alone.
  6. Don't confuse

    • A high share of output in services is not the same as a high share of jobs in services.
    • Service sector is far broader than the information technology (IT) sector, which Chapter 12 covers.

Notice how the branches move from what services are, to how much they produce, to how many people they employ and on what terms.
