Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle: Overview
- The Telangana Peasants Armed Struggle was a communist-led agrarian uprising that developed into an armed movement against landlordism, feudal oppression, the Nizam's rule and, in its final phase, the Indian government's military administration.
- The principal period of the struggle was 1946–1951.
- Its central political-economic slogan was Bhoomi, Bhukti, Vimukti — land, food and liberation.
- The movement drew substantial support from peasants and rural communities who opposed the exploitation of Deshmukhs, landlords, Jagirdars, Zamindars, Patel-Patwaris, moneylenders, Razakars and revenue officials.
- The struggle led to the weakening of feudal authority in many villages and brought questions of land redistribution, tenancy rights and abolition of Vetti to the centre of political debate.
- Around 4,000 participants are traditionally cited as martyrs of the struggle.
