Political Parties and the Later Phase of Telangana Movement

  • The later phase of the Telangana Movement was marked by increasing participation of national parties, regional parties, Left parties and grassroots organisations.
  • Political parties played different roles: some actively supported statehood, some shifted their position over time, and others consistently opposed bifurcation.
  • The most consequential political roles were played by the Indian National Congress, BJP and Telugu Desam Party, while CPI, CPI(ML) New Democracy and several grassroots organisations strengthened the movement at different stages.
